Nininho and Raiana are a couple who works at the China Taiwan
restaurant. They have demonstrated interest in spiritual matters for
last few years, but this year they have taken their search more
seriously, not missing a Bible study or church meeting and sharing what
they learn from the Bible with their relatives.
This has been a rough month for Raiana: a close sister-in-law (34 years
old with a two month old baby) died suddenly, possibly from a heart
condition plus dengue fever. Raiana was devastated but amazed at the
strength God has given her during this difficult period.
The month of April is ending a lot more joyful: after studying baptism,
both were baptized into Christ at 1 a.m. after our midnight Bible study
at the restaurant. Thirty people were present to witness their birth.
Edda and I went to a nearby city to study the Bible with a family, Genilda (who is already a Christian), Ana, Mariana, Luiza, and Jefferson. While we were reading God's Word, Ana's husband, Silva, came in and sat down, and then blurted out: "What about baptism?" It took me by surprise because he has barely studied with us, but, most certainly, is already thinking about spiritual matters. Our Bible study then took a lot of detours, answering this question or that. Silva said he still has a lot of questions, and we pray that the Lord will use us to answer them, bringing him to understand the Good News!
